T. Watley

T. Watley is an author, hair stylist, veteran, wife and mother of five. Born and raised in Baltimore Maryland with a love for words, she left home at 18 and enlisted in the US Army to escape the crime and drug infested streets of the city she called home. After completing her service T. acquired her cosmetology license and went on to have a 18 year plus career. Being a veteran and a hair stylist has afforded her a full life of travel and enrichment. Never forgetting her first love of the written word, T. decided to publish books of her own titled A Fantasy Real: When Life and Lust Collide, A Fantasy Real 2: The Afterburn along with two children’s books The Adventures of Imani and Me, and The Little Writer’s Handwriting Book. Writing has always been her first love and her ultimate dream is to see her work on the silver screen.

1. What inspired you to write a children's book?

I got the idea for my children's book about 16 years ago when my oldest daughter was about 4. I wanted a character she could read about that looked like her and inspired her to be great. Unfortunately, life happened and she was an adult before I was able to publish it but she is still very proud. The character Imani is named for my daughter.

2. If you could tell yourself one affirmation as a kid, what would it be?

If I could tell the younger T. Watley something it would be that you are beautiful inside and out and don't ever doubt yourself.

3. What's next for you as an author?

My future plan as an author is to put out more material. I have lots of different ideas floating around. The goal is to put them to paper. I was given the gift of storytelling for a reason. It is time for me to put it to use and discover my full potential as an artist.
